Today, I introduced legislation to help end the digital divide and deliver affordable, quality broadband service to folks living in rural communities.
Community Broadband Mapping Act
Flawed service maps compiled by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) paint an inaccurate picture of upstate broadband access. The bipartisan Community Broadband Mapping Act gives our communities the ability to collect their own data on broadband coverage so that they can challenge the FCC's inaccurate mapping. This is the first step to ensuring families, farmers, small businesses, and students across New York's 19th Congressional District can access secure and affordable broadband service.
Broadband Speed Act
Upstate New York needs broadband internet that is accessible, reliable, and matches their internet needs. It is unacceptable in the 21st century, in the wealthiest county in the world; folks are living without a quality internet connection. The Broadband Speed Act would require internet service providers to deliver accurate speed data -- not inaccurate estimates.
As we recover from COVID-19 and begin to rebuild, broadband access must be a priority. I'll keep pushing at the federal level, in concert with my colleagues on the Rural Broadband Task Force, to get my bills included in future legislation to improve mapping and bring internet infrastructure to our rural areas.
Stay safe & healthy.
Sincerely,
Antonio
