Working for YOU: March in Review

Hope, relief, and help have finally arrived. This month, I was proud to vote for the American Rescue Plan -- historic legislation that gets shots in arms, kids in school, money in pockets, and people in jobs. In the past two weeks, millions of Americans have received their stimulus checks, and thousands of upstate residents have gotten vaccines.

Our seniors, many of whom have been homebound for over a year, have reconnected with the people and places they love. Our kids have been able to hug family members. Our small businesses are getting additional Paycheck Protection Program assistance.

The American Rescue Plan also includes my Direct Support for Communities Act funding formula, which delivers $130.2 billion to local governments across the United States -- including over $400 million for NY-19 counties, towns, and villages.

I've visited counties throughout the district and spoken with more than 100 local leaders who need these dollars to keep their communities safe, support small businesses, continue essential services, and complete existing infrastructure projects. It is an honor to deliver this funding to folks on the ground who know how to best help their communities.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

This month, three of my legislative measures passed the House, and I introduced one bipartisan bill to put whole milk back into our schools.

Legislative Measures Passed by the House:

Direct Support for Communities Act

Included in the American Rescue Plan, my funding formula delivers $130.2 billion in COVID-19 relief to local governments across the United States.

Violence Against Women Act Amendments

Included in the Violence Against Women Act, my amendments recognize and support abuse survivors in rural communities across the United States.

CLEAR Act

Included in the For the People Act (HR 1), my provision increases transparency and reduces corruption by requiring additional publicly available disclosures for lobbyists funding political ads or other political activities.

Introduced Legislation:

Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act will help young people maintain a healthy diet while supporting our upstate dairy farmers and processors. I am proud to lead this bipartisan effort to provide more choices for healthy and nutritious milk in schools. This legislation is good for young people and good for our dairy producers in today’s tough farm economy.

Our casework team has been working around the clock to assist you and get answers from federal agencies. Here are a few resources and updates regarding COVID-19 relief.

Stimulus Checks

Are you still waiting to get your IRS Economic Impact Payment? You can use the IRS’ Get My Payment tool to find out when and how you will receive your stimulus check. Folks collecting federal benefits (Social Security, Railroad Retirees, veterans, etc.) do not need to take any action to get a stimulus check. Note: the Get My Payment tool will show estimates for federal benefit recipients starting April 5th.

Shuttered Venue Operators Grant

The Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program provides emergency assistance for venues. As a member of the House Small Business Committee, I pushed to include SVOG funding in Congress's December COVID-19 package and again in the just-passed American Rescue Plan. Paycheck Protection Program Extension

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) application window has been extended until May 31st. I was proud to cosponsor the PPP Extension Act, which gives folks more time to submit their applications. Click here to learn more and apply.

ny-19 meetings

In March, I met with folks all across the district to discuss how the American Rescue Plan would help them. I visited schools, small businesses, local governments, and vaccine sites to answer questions and hear from NY-19 residents.

At the start of this month, I held a virtual roundtable attended by more than 100 upstate officials to discuss my Direct Support for Communities Act. Mayors, county executives, town supervisors, and other local leaders asked questions about the legislation and shared how they planned to use the relief dollars. I’ll continue to work with local governments as COVID-19 funding is dispersed to counties, towns, and villages across upstate.

Throughout my visits, I found a renewed sense of optimism from Dutchess to Schoharie to Greene to Ulster counties as vaccines and stimulus checks are distributed. I’ll keep working to end COVID-19 and ensure our communities are built back better in the months ahead.
